Our Journey

Every trip is a classroom without walls — expanding horizons, igniting curiosity, and showing our girls a world full of possibility.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

The Journey Program is one of our most impactful initiatives. We believe that real-world experiences — visiting museums, science centers, historical sites, and cultural institutions — are essential to a complete education. These trips don't just teach facts; they transform perspectives.

Past Journeys That Shaped Our Girls

A brief look at the transformative experiences that have defined our Journey Program since its founding.

Girls at a science museum
March 2023 — Atlanta, GA

Science & Space Exploration at the Fernbank Museum

Twenty-two girls from our program visited the Fernbank Museum of Natural History in Atlanta for an unforgettable day of science and discovery. From dinosaur fossils to space exhibits, the girls explored the wonders of the natural world with wide eyes and endless questions. The highlight was a live planetarium show that left several girls declaring they wanted to become astronomers. This trip marked the official launch of our Journey Program and set the standard for all future experiences.

Girls at a civil rights museum
July 2023 — Atlanta, GA

The National Center for Civil and Human Rights

In the summer of 2023, thirty girls visited the National Center for Civil and Human Rights in downtown Atlanta. Standing before photographs and artifacts from the Civil Rights Movement, the girls connected their own lives to the legacy of those who came before them. Several participants wrote reflective essays afterward that moved their teachers to tears. This journey deepened our girls' sense of identity, history, and purpose — reminding them that they are the inheritors of a powerful legacy.

Girls in a community garden
October 2023 — Stone Mountain, GA

Environmental Science & Community Garden Retreat

Eighteen girls spent a weekend at a nature retreat in Stone Mountain, Georgia, learning about environmental science, sustainable agriculture, and community gardening. They planted vegetables, studied local ecosystems, and participated in a workshop on environmental justice — exploring how pollution and climate change disproportionately affect communities of color. The girls returned home with seedlings they had grown themselves and a new appreciation for the natural world.

Girls at an arts workshop
February 2024 — Atlanta, GA

Arts & Creative Expression Workshop at the High Museum

In celebration of Black History Month, twenty-five girls attended a special arts and creative expression workshop at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta. They explored works by African-American artists, participated in a hands-on painting workshop, and presented their own original pieces at a mini-exhibition at the end of the day. Several girls discovered a passion for visual arts that they continue to pursue through our after-school programs. This journey reminded us that creativity is a form of power.

Girls at a STEM coding workshop
April 2024 — Atlanta, GA

Girls Who Code: STEM Innovation Day

In partnership with a local technology company, thirty girls participated in a full-day STEM Innovation Day, learning the basics of coding, robotics, and app design. Each team of four girls was challenged to design a mobile app that solved a real community problem. The winning team created a concept for an app that connects food-insecure families with local food banks. This journey was a powerful reminder that our girls are not just the future — they are already solving today's problems.
